Network in Action: Bordeaux Gathering

In October 2025, some members of the Monetary Diversity Network gathered in Bordeaux for the Complementary Currency Gathering, a satellite event of the GSEF Forum organised by Mouvement SOL, RTES, and the City of Bordeaux.

More than 100 people participated, including no less than XXX partners, friends, and pioneers met to explore one shared question: how can local currencies thrive in a changing world?

Across Europe and beyond, complementary and local currencies face complex realities. Many of them struggle — not because the idea is outdated, but because it remains ahead of its time.

They continue to demonstrate that money can be rooted in trust, reciprocity, and locality, offering a vision of the economy as a commons — not a commodity.

In Bordeaux, this vision took shape through a vibrant exchange of practices, challenges, and innovations.

Participants from the Local-for-Local (NGI) programme and the Monetary Diversity Network showcased how open-source tools, federated infrastructures, and shared learning environments can help communities adapt their monetary systems without losing their autonomy.

The meeting reaffirmed what guides our collective work: that diversity is not fragmentation — it is resilience.

And that every experiment, every local initiative, adds a new root to the living ecosystem of monetary transformation.

“Money can be local, digital, democratic — and alive.”
